Short answer: build Varka as an on-field Anemo main DPS — a Crit claymore such as A Thousand Blazing Suns, Verdict or Beacon of the Reed Sea, a 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle or Viridescent Venerer set, ATK% sands, an Anemo DMG goblet and a Crit circlet, with talent priority on his Normal Attack first. The numbers to aim for are roughly 2,000–2,400 ATK, 70–80% Crit Rate, 180%+ Crit DMG and 120–140% Energy Recharge, and the standard support shell is Faruzan, Bennett and Furina.

What Varka’s Kit Actually Rewards
Varka is a 5-star Anemo claymore character whose damage is concentrated in infused Normal Attacks after his Elemental Skill, with his Elemental Burst acting as a large AoE hit that also leaves a lingering field. That single fact shapes the whole build: he wants to be on field, he wants attack speed and Anemo DMG, and he wants teammates who shred Anemo RES or hand out flat ATK rather than teammates who rely on reactions he cannot amplify himself.
Two consequences follow. First, his output scales with how many Normal Attacks he lands inside the infusion window, so attack speed and interruption resistance are worth more than they look on paper. Second, because Anemo has no amplifying reactions, his ceiling is set almost entirely by support investment — Faruzan’s Anemo RES shred and Bennett’s flat ATK will do more for him than any single artifact substat roll.
Talent Priority: What to Level First
Level in this order: Normal Attack, then Elemental Burst, then Elemental Skill.
- Normal Attack — level first, aim for 9–10. This is where the majority of his damage lives, since his infused claymore swings carry the multipliers.
- Elemental Burst — level second, 8–9. A large single hit plus the field that keeps his infusion and buff uptime running, so it is worth real investment if you burst every rotation.
- Elemental Skill — level last, 6–8. Mostly a delivery system for the infusion and its buff. Take it higher only once the other two are done.
Concrete example: a Varka at 10/6/8 with a Serpent Spine and a 70/180 crit split will usually beat the same character at 6/8/8 with identical gear, because no weapon or artifact swap makes up for missing Normal Attack multipliers.
Best Weapons for Varka
| Weapon | Rarity | Base ATK (Lv. 90) | Substat | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Thousand Blazing Suns | 5-star | 741 | Crit Rate | Highest ceiling; ATK and DMG buffs that line up with burst windows |
| Verdict | 5-star | 674 | Crit Rate | Best all-round 5-star for a Crit-hungry build |
| Beacon of the Reed Sea | 5-star | 608 | Crit Rate | Comfort pick; ATK buff after skill plus extra survivability |
| Skyward Pride | 5-star | 674 | Energy Recharge | Fixes energy problems and frees the sands for ATK% |
| Wolf’s Gravestone | 5-star | 608 | ATK% | Raw ATK; serviceable but weaker than Crit options |
| Serpent Spine | 4-star | 510 | Crit Rate | Best 4-star overall if you can hold the stacks |
| Blackcliff Slasher | 4-star | 510 | Crit DMG | Balancing a Crit-starved build; passive stacks on multi-target floors |
| Prototype Archaic | 4-star | 565 | ATK% | Craftable, no gacha; the default free option |
| Sacrificial Greatsword | 4-star | 565 | Energy Recharge | Energy fix before you own a 5-star claymore |
| Favonius Greatsword | 4-star | 454 | Energy Recharge | Team battery when nobody else is running Favonius |
How to choose in one minute
- You own a 5-star Crit claymore: use it. Verdict and A Thousand Blazing Suns answer his Crit needs most directly, and Beacon of the Reed Sea is the friendliest if your Crit Rate is already fine.
- You only have 4-stars: Serpent Spine is the single biggest upgrade available to you, comfortably ahead of a refine-1 Prototype Archaic on a build that is short on Crit Rate.
- You cannot burst on cooldown: Sacrificial Greatsword or Skyward Pride lets you drop to an ATK% sands and still burst every rotation, which is usually a bigger damage gain than the weapon’s own passive.
Artifact Sets: Match the Set to Your Team
| Your situation | Set | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Anemo hypercarry with Faruzan | 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle | Boosts Normal, Charged and Plunge DMG plus attack speed — exactly where his damage sits |
| Swirl-heavy team, or you want team-wide value | 4-piece Viridescent Venerer | 40% elemental RES shred for the whole party when he triggers the swirl |
| Running Furina | 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter | Crit Rate stacking from HP changes; smooths out a low-Crit build |
| New account, no farming yet | 2-piece Gladiator’s Finale + 2-piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence | 18% ATK from each set, both of which you get for free |
| Off-field or support role | 4-piece Viridescent Venerer | The shred is the point; his personal damage is secondary in that slot |
One caveat on Viridescent Venerer: the 4-piece only pays off if there is an element on the field for Varka to swirl. In a mono-Anemo team with no off-field aura, Desert Pavilion Chronicle is the better choice regardless of how good the VV rolls are.
Main Stats and Stat Targets
| Stat | Minimum | Comfortable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATK | 1,800 | 2,000–2,400 | Before Bennett; his burst adds roughly 600–1,000 flat ATK on top |
| Crit Rate | 60% | 70–80% | Below 60%, his burst hit becomes a coin flip |
| Crit DMG | 150% | 180–220% | Keep roughly a 1:2 ratio with Crit Rate |
| Energy Recharge | 110% | 120–140% | 110% is fine only with Favonius or Skyward Pride in the team |
| Elemental Mastery | 0 | 0–100 | Only worth rolling if Varka is your main swirl trigger |
| Anemo DMG Bonus | 46.6% (goblet) | 61.6%+ | Goblet plus a 2-piece Anemo set bonus |
Sands: ATK%. Switch to Energy Recharge only if you are under 110% and nobody on the team holds a Favonius weapon. Goblet: Anemo DMG Bonus, always — an ATK% goblet is a stopgap while you farm. Circlet: whichever of Crit Rate or Crit DMG moves you closer to the 1:2 ratio.
Energy Recharge and Rotation
Varka’s burst is the expensive part of his kit and the thing that keeps his infusion window open, so Energy Recharge is a rotation problem rather than a damage stat. The practical rule: count how many times Varka picks up particles per rotation, then set ER so the burst is ready the moment it comes off cooldown. With a battery such as Faruzan holding Favonius Warbow, most builds burst every rotation at 120–130% ER. Without a battery, or in a team where Varka is the only Anemo unit generating particles, budget 140–160% or move his sands to ER%.
A basic rotation, in order:
- Set up supports first — Bennett’s burst and Furina’s skill and burst before Varka takes the field, so his damage lands inside the buff window.
- Use the Elemental Skill
